We are currently in the process of creating lovely items which reflect our research. Here are some of our T-shirt designs.
This term, a group of Year 4 students have been working in small groups to research and write a review about a website or application they would like their Year 5/6 teachers to purchase for them to use next year.
Students had to create a presentation which they shared with Mr Trotter, Mrs Vine and the rest of the class persuading the teachers why their app or website should be chosen to be used next year.
Here are the different apps and websites we reviewed:
The goal of the game is to score the most points possible. Points are scored by rolling a single die. Each time the die is rolled, you must add the number on the die to the sum of your previous rolls. A player can roll the die as many times as they wish. However, if a 1 is rolled, the player’s score goes to zero. If this happens, you become known as a “greedy pig.” Whenever you are happy with your score, you may choose to stop.
We used a 10 sided die to play with the number 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. As a group we found out that the probability of rolling a one was an equal likely chance because all ten numbers had the same chance of being rolled which was 1/10. We also worked out that it is unlikely for us to roll a one because there a 1/10 chance of rolling a one and a 9/10 chance of not rolling a one.
After the first round Liam was on the lead with 75 points, after the second round Liam was still in the lead with 95 points but in the third round everyone was knocked out for being “greedy pigs” except Joshua V on a score of 46 and Corey won with a score 64.
Lots of us were disgruntled by the rules of Greedy Pig so in pairs we came up with different ways we could adjust the game. Here are our ideas below:
Finlay & Ali: “Roll a certain number twice AND then everyone is out. So you get a life saver the first time the number is rolled and then you’re out the second time it is rolled.”
Nick & Blanca: “If you roll an odd number you’re out and if you roll an even number you can add it onto your score.”
Arun: “Rolling an even number gets you out and you can add an odd numbers which are rolled.”
Adam “If any two numbers are rolled twice, one after the other, then you’re a greedy pig.”
Tiffany: Changing the number to 0, because you can’t add zero to your score anyway.”
We had another go at playing Greedy Pig and each time we changed the rules to one of the adjusted rules suggested above.
Which suggestion do you think is the most fair way of playing Greedy Pig? Do you have another way we could change the rules to Greedy Pig?
We have been looking at things we we can do as a Grade 4 community to help others and make Wooranna Park a better place. In a workshop with Miss Berenato we watched the video below and had to think of three things each of us could do to change the world.
Here are our ideas on how we can help the WPPS community:
Muhammad’s response: One day a bad kid went to a supermarket and bought a Banana. Once he finished he threw the Banana skin on the ground. After a few minutes a business man with a case passed by and slipped on the Banana skin which sent his case flying to a man who was on a ladder that was painting a wall. That man fell on all of the balloons a clown was holding. The clown was in shock and accidently bumped into a person that was riding his bike which sent him flying into a cargo box full of bananas! This made bananas sprawl out everywhere on the ground. A zoo quite near to the supermarket had lots of monkeys in it (a herd). They escaped just to get their hands on as many bananas as possible. In the process, the monkey’s trampled over all the people in the way.
MORAL: One silly action can turn into a disaster!-Please take this seriously it can happen.
I was the town tree. Most people don’t know I can see, but I can. I can see murders, thieves, everything! Today, I was in my usual spot. I was 300 years old, so I slept A LOT! I woke up with a start! I guessed it was about 4:00am in the morning. A big loud truck went by. I just tried to close my eyes and get back to sleep again. I woke up 3 hours later. 7:00am in the morning. I saw cars rushing to get to work, buses taking children to school.
After all that, I looked around. I saw the bakery. Some people came. Children to teenagers to parents to GRANDPARENTS! I saw children running out with pies in their hands. I looked over to the playground and saw children on swings, slides and monkey bars. How I wished I could be a child. I looked over to the shopping center and saw kids coming out with their parents. I was glad the kids were happy. I looked over at the ice cream van and saw kids lining up having ice cream.
One of the houses were having a lot of fun. Laughing and singing and whatever you do during party time. I suddenly realized that it was a birthday party. Balloons were hanging and lots of noise was coming out of the windows. Some reason, it was now 9:00pm. I didn’t realize that all that happened in one day. Time flies when you’re having fun. I thought to myself. Soon, I was sleeping happily. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I’m here in my spaceship, thinking. “How and where should I land? On the ring or on the actual planet?” I thought for a minute or two, and then I made up my mind. I decided to land on the ring, since I don’t think ANYONE has been on the ring before. I followed my very well planned plan, and landed safely. I won’t be here for an hour or two, for I will be exploring amazing (well, so far!) Saturn.
I’m back! I have been turning with Saturn’s Ring, taking a look around Saturn ( the actual planet). I am thinking how I should get to the actual planet. Then I got an idea! Instead of using up my petrol, I am going to get a REEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAALLY long rope, throw it to the actual planet, and then climb up on the rope……..I’ve gotten up! Saturn is so amazing! I feel like I’ve got the whole world in my hands!………… I’ve made up my mind,… I’m living here.
